Multi-media, interactive and wide-ranging: the presentation in the LWL Visitor Centre summarizes Porta’s natural and cultural history in unprecedented breadth. At six separate media stations, visitors can immerse themselves in images, animations, films and audio media, covering the varied history of the monument. Further information can be found here.

Accessibility

The visitor centre has two wheelchair accessible elevators. There are also several parking spaces for people with mobility problems. The terrain leading up to the upper terrace has been made accessible to people with mobility problems. The monument, including the statue of the Kaiser, is only accessible by stairs. Toilet facilities for the disabled are available in the car park.

Both the analogue and digital information in the visitor centre is in German and English. The core content and texts are also provided in German sign language and as audio descriptions at the media stations. All media stations are accessible to those with mobility problems.

Directions

The Regionalbahn (regional trains) serve Porta Westfalica station and intercity trains stop at Minden station.
Shuttle buses:

Two Park & Ride buses travel to and from the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument at weekends:
The shuttle bus 518 on the Kaiser Wilhelm line travels every 30 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from the car park at “Porta Bahnhof”, “Willem” and “Kaiserhof” to and from the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument.

- via the B 51 and B 61 in the direction of Minden,
- in Minden take Ringstraße (B 61) onto Portastraße in the direction of Porta Westfalica,
- turn right into Kaiserstraße

- via the B 65 in the direction of Minden, then straight on at the junction until Portastraße (L780),
- turn right into Kaiserstraße

- via the A2 (E34), take exit 34 at Veltheim, in the direction of Porta Westfalica,
- take Veltheimer Straße (L 865) and Kirchsiek (L 780) in the direction of Porta Westfalica,
- continue straight on along Portastraße (L 780), across the Weser bridge in the direction of Minden,
- turn left into Kaiserstraße (L 780)

- drive along Portastraße (L 780) across the Weser bridge in the direction of Minden,
- turn left into Kaiserstraße (L 780)

- from the A30 (E30) take the B 61 in the direction of Porta Westfalica (Kanalstraße, Mindener Straße, Dehmerstraße, Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße)
- turn into Portastraße in the direction of Minden,
- turn left into Kaiserstraße (L 780)

- exit the A2 (E34) at Kreuz Bad Oeynhausen motorway junction, onto the A30 (E30) in the direction of Bad Oeynhausen,
- B 61 (Vlothoer Straße) in the direction of Porta Westfalica (Dehmerstraße, Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße)
- turn into Portastraße (L 780) in the direction of Minden,
- turn left into Kaiserstraße (L 780)
